Title Turned Inside Out: : The Official Story of Obituary Type Book Whole
  Year 2022 Publication Abbreviated Journal
  Volume Issue Pages 328
Keywords Obituary, death metal, Florida, John Tardy, Trevor Peres, Donald Tardy
Abstract Tampa, Florida's Obituary has been a death metal institution since 1984. Guided by the inhuman, if not unfathomably deranged vocals of John Tardy, the obscenely brutal guitar tone of Trevor Peres and rhythmic brilliance of drummer Donald Tardy, Obituary defined heaviness throughout the 1990s. Their 1989 'Slowly We Rot' and 1990 'Cause of Death' studio albums are undisputed classics, but their live prowess and unwavering dedication to their fans made them one of the metal underground's most respected bands. An unexpected five-year hiatus starting in 1998 only saw Obituary's stature grow when a new generation of bands adopted their sonic trademarks. However, their post-reformation efforts were nearly sidetracked by the perils of the music industry and inter-band tumult. Through the unbreakable bond between the Tardy brothers and Peres, Obituary emerged stronger than ever, entrenched in their rightful position as death metal vanguards.'Turned Inside Out: The Official Story of Obituary' is the fully authorized biography of Obituary, providing an unprecedented look into the band's career through in-depth interviews, studio recollections, road stories and scores of exclusive photos.

Title North From Here: The Sentenced Story (English edition) Type Book Whole
  Year 2021 Publication Abbreviated Journal
  Volume Issue Pages 262
  Keywords
Abstract Founded in 1989, metal band Sentenced was a pioneer of Finnish heavy music. The band’s melancholy tunes had a universal appeal that spoke to audiences far further afield than just in their native North, with more than a million records sold worldwide. Over the course of their sixteen-year long career, Sentenced toured Europe and North America extensively.

The story of these Northern Ostrobothnian (anti)heroes takes them on a wild ride through early teenage bravado to ludicrously absurd and profoundly tragic twists of fate. Along the way you’ll learn their songwriting secrets, experience unforgettable shows and explore the deepest troughs of despair that is life on tour. Deathly disaster and Northern gallows humour; triumphs and squandered opportunities. These heavy-drinking, famously taciturn men in black tell the tale of what it was like to play in the band called Sentenced.

Author Matti Riekki is a music journalist specialising in heavy rock, known as the host of the late national radio show Metalliliitto and the longstanding Editor-in-Chief of Finnish heavy metal magazine Inferno.

Title Täältä Pohjoiseen: Sentencedin Tarina Type Book Whole
  Year 2014 Publication Abbreviated Journal
  Volume Issue Pages 262
Keywords Sentenced, Death Metal, Melodic Death Metal, Gothic Metal, Finland

Title CULTURA JUVENIL E IDENTIDAD: ORIGEN Y DESARROLLO DE LA CULTURA DEL METAL EN LA CIUDAD DE LIMA ENTRE LOS AÑOS 1980 Y 2017 Type Book Whole
  Year 2017 Publication Abbreviated Journal
  Volume Issue Pages 316
Keywords Youth culture; identity; subculture; cultural construction; metal music
Abstract This research deals with the origin and development of the culture of Metal music in the city of Lima, and how adolescents of that time began the construction of a musical scene and the construction of an identity as individuals and as a community. The initial development of this urban culture took place during the 1980s, a period that was disastrous for Peru, where there was a chaotic context at the political, social level; economic; terror, suffering and above all uncertainty about the future. Between the bombs, death and destruction – facts generated by armed movements – the culture of Metal began to take shape, having as protagonists this group of adolescents; largely as rebellion and rejection about what they had to live. It was a society they did not want to be in. Based on different cultural manifestations (bands, fanzines, concerts, organizations) they began to build their own world, culture and identity. This identity is revaluated and becomes more powerful today when compared with the new generations of metalheads; who, based on the use of technology and a generally more favorable context, also try to participate in this urban culture.

Year 2013 Publication Investigaciones Sociales Abbreviated Journal
  Volume 17 Issue 30 Pages 279-290
Keywords Dialectica; politica cultural neoliberal; subculturas; musica heavy metal; Sociology; Latin America; Non-Western scenes; Perú
