Announcement: For the first time in the German-speaking world, this conference brings together experts from history, philology, religious studies and musicology to discuss the cultural and political significance of the reception of the Middle Ages in heavy metal.
Metal Middle Ages – Medieval Reception in Metal
Metal Middle Ages – Images of the Middle Ages play a central role in the history and present of heavy metal. This applies to the musical design as well as to the visual marketing and self-image of the actors. The conference looks at the various facets and forms of the reception of the Middle Ages in heavy metal. Particular attention is paid to the politicization and identity-political appropriation of the Middle Ages. This diverse potential for knowledge is reflected in the interdisciplinary and cross-epochal orientation of the conference, which brings together experts from history, philology, religious studies and musicology.
