The publication of Women & Femme Voices in Metal: Feminist Strategies of Resistance
(Routledge, 2026), edited by Jasmine Hazel Shadrack and Francesca Stevens, will be
celebrated with an online launch and panel discussion.
Through an interdisciplinary, intersectional feminist lens, the collection examines persistent
patterns of marginalisation within metal culture and metal studies. Bringing together
contributors from diverse countries and disciplines, it explores gender, community, identity,
trauma, queering, and herstory among other topics through the experiences of musicians,
fans, and researchers.
The launch features three brief chapter presentations and a panel discussion titled The
Future of Feminist Metal Studies, which will explore the field’s evolving intersectional,
decolonial, and community-engaged directions.
